As many of Joys clients are, I am a working mother trying to stay healthy and in shape. I have three children ages 5, 3 and 1 and I work part time as an Occupational Therapist. I started training with Joy about 2 years ago while pregnant with my third child. I was able to stay in better shape during and after my pregnancy with the help and guidance of Joy and her pre/post natal knowledge. She was able to provide modifications and motivation to continue exercising, even up to the night of my delivery! I believe I was able to “bounce” back from my delivery in a fraction of the time because of Joy’s exercises and focus on maintaining a strong core. Joy has been able to change my mind frame of exercise from something I dreaded, to something I can’t imagine my day without. This in turn has given me more confidence, strength and patience to be the best mother and wife I can be. Thank you Joy!
I started with Joy almost 2 years ago and I cannot imagine life without her. I am grateful for all that she has taught me. I had never had to work out before in my life and suddenly found myself very unhealthy. Joy has helped me curb some of my bad eating habits and be more conscious about my exercise and my diet. I feel great in my own skin and could not do it without Joy’s encouragement and effective work outs. She has helped me be a better me!
I am a mom to two girls, Anna-4 and Margaret-2. I work part-time as an RN at LRGH in the Vascular Surgery office. I met Joy at the library and fell in love with those Lululemon pants. I looked at her website one day, and was intrigued, but scared! I then found out I was pregnant, and at that time was so unaware that you could actually “workout” while pregnant! After I had my second child, I knew it was time. I was overweight, weak, tired, and had just had it. Two weeks postpartum, I signed my release and got to work in a Stroller Fit class. Well, I haven’t looked back! I try to do 2 classes a week, (wish it was more) and love it. I am at the point where I NEED to workout…never thought I would say that, I have been a member at other gyms before and it fizzles out. Joy’s program, as well as Joy herself, pushes you–makes you want to be fit, want to do Bodybuilders (ok, maybe not THAT), but everything about Joy makes you want more! She’s a great friend, woman, mother, and most of all an amazing, charismatic trainer to so many of us.
I have been with Joy for almost 3 years. I can’t begin to express what positive things Joy has brought into my life. She inspires me everyday to push myself harder and to be a healthier me. With Joy pushing me to be a healthier person , I know what lifestyle change needed to happen next – I needed to quit smoking. Smoking was the first thing I needed to cross off my list, and she gave me the extra support I needed.
Overall, the ultimate gift that I have received from Joy Is being a healthy and positive role model for my children, and being able to watch them live the same way. I showed them nothing in life is permanent , and if you aren’t happy one way, there are other ways. I have showed them with effort and courage–anything is possible.
I am now strong, confident, and a healthy women, I am thankful to have Joy in my life, and I am thankful everyday that our paths crossed. Like somebody once said, “everybody needs a little ‘Joy’ in their lives.”

When I found out I was pregnant, I was so excited and I remember thinking I will finally be a mom. I also remember thinking I want to be a strong mom, I wanted a healthy fit pregnancy. I didn’t want to be the mom to be that would take the next nine months off from the gym. I didn’t want to gain an enormous amount of weight. I was 35 years old and pregnant, my body wouldn’t bounce back like the pregnant ladies 10-15 years my junior. I needed to stay active and eat healthy during my pregnancy. I needed Joy.
I consider myself fortunate to have trained with Joy during my pregnancy.
Because I trained with joy I experienced a great, healthy pregnancy and a pleasurable birthing experience, And I owe it all to Joy’s passion of prenatal fitness and promoting a healthy life style. …if I was going to have a healthy remainder of my pregnancy it was important to incorporate exercise into my daily routine. Because Joy is a prenatal and postpartum certified trainer, I decided she would be the best choice for both the baby and I.
Training with Joy during my pregnancy was the best decision that I could’ve made. Besides the typical benefits that come from an exercise program, I also felt energized and stayed active throughout my entire pregnancy. My healthy baby boy was born three months ago and I have since begun postpartum training with Joy and I am already seeing results. Four years ago, I lost my father at the age of 56 to a very sudden heart attack. He was a naturally skinny man, who by all outside appearances seemed to be in good shape. This was a huge wake up call for me, as I resembled him in many ways! From that point on, I took this experience and tried to change my own habits, with really little knowledge of how to go about it. I did begin to lose weight, but never felt better about myself or my body…That’s when a very good friend of mine, one who by the way is in GREAT shape, introduced me to Joy. Since then Body Design by Joy has brought something so much more than good health and the love of fitness into my life. Not even one year ago I, like my father, was a naturally “skinny”, wife and fulltime working mother of two young children. It may seem like a lot to some, but beyond that, I had nothing to identify myself with…Today, I am STRONG, HEALTHY, HAPPIER THAN I’VE EVER BEEN, HALF MARATHON RUNNER, IN GREAT SHAPE, NO LONGER JUST SKINNY, wife and fulltime mother of two beautiful children!! Today I feel like I can accomplish any goal that is put in front of me, and am no longer afraid of a challenge! Both my family life and my career have blossomed because of the boost in confidence and energy that I have gained as a direct result of Joy’s ability to push me beyond anything I thought I could achieve!! Recently, I have successfully completed my 4th half marathon within 5 months, finishing 9th in my age group of females, 30 – 39 years of age, and have met my goal of finishing a race in under 2 hours! This is a HUGE accomplishment for me. Prior to 6 months ago, I had a treadmill, but it was more of a dust collector, and I would never be seen running outside! I feel like a totally new person and am in better shape than I’ve ever been! Never at 16 years old would I have imagined saying that almost 17 years later!! Not only have my exercise habits changed drastically, but my eating habits as well, for both myself and my family! My children now live an active, healthy lifestyle and will hopefully learn to love and continue to live that lifestyle as they get older! My husband also follows me to every race, and beams with pride at each and every one as I cross that finish line. There is no better feeling than to have my best friend, life partner and one of the strongest men I have ever known, look at me with such pride!! Not only do I go to Joy’s training sessions two days a week, I am also in the process of converting an unfinished room above my garage into a beautiful workout room for those days that I cannot train with Joy! Although I have added so many more activities that strain the little time I already have, it’s amazing how much more at peace I feel with every aspect of my life. Training with Joy has thus far enabled me to maintain my fitness base that I built prior to pregnancy. She has allowed me to feel healthy and maintain a positive self image. As a physician, I have researched how much exercise can augment your pregnancy. Joy does an excellent job designing the perfect program that will allow you to maintain your fitness base and recover easily from pregnancy. Joy has extensive knowledge and patience with a woman’s prenatal and postnatal body. Eight months postpartum, I am wearing loose pre-pregnancy jeans, and feeling much stronger than I have in a very long time. Many of her exercises focus on rebuilding and strengthening the core which is so important in the postpartum stage. She individualizes workouts, not making the client feel that their fitness level is not at the level it should be—while encouraging the client at every stage.
Joy has helped get me to a place I never thought I could be at. I have a 4 pack! (other 2 under construction 😉 ) I love the workouts, we’ve been training over a year and she never ceases to amaze me with her continually new moves and butt kicking workouts. Thank you!

I started working out with Joy 5 weeks after I had my baby. He is now 14 months old and I don’t know where I would be without her.
